All About The Music

Hey Folk!  Dig this:

Since Monday, I have been working as a World Café & XPN Programming Assistant Intern…I know, the job title is a mouthful, but it’s a blast…My duties (heh heh) include formatting scripts for the World Café radio program, researching artists who are going to be appearing in the studio, and sending various things to all of the affiliates…of course, there are always odd jobs to do, like helping a band bring stuff in, and filling the copiers with paper, but every job has that…what every job does not have is an atmosphere like the one at XPN…first of all, the phones play the radio through the speaker…that alone should sell you…other than that, the people there are really fun to work with (both the other interns and the XPN people)…they are a bit kooky, but that’s the way I like it…and did I mention that I can pick from a whole lot of CD’s to take home?…it’s like if you worked at Wawa and got to have coffee whenever you want, except it’s with music that doesn’t come out for a month, and not coffee…

I had to leave early today to go to AP Stat Exam In May prep, which was baawwwwing…at least I got to see a bunch of people that I haven’t seen since Finals…I thought it was really funny how all of the teachers and other students were so happy to see us, as though they forgot who we are…it was refreshing, to say the least…

Turns out, I am the busiest little bee I have ever been…I have XPN Monday through Friday, Zerns on Saturday, and XPN on Sunday nights…oh right, I forgot to tel you about that…

About a week ago, Sra. Baskin called me and said that Gene Shay was talking to her about me…You’ll remember that I met Gene at the Arlo Guthrie concert last month, which is recounted in a previous post…Gene was so impressed with me and my musical awareness that he asked for my number because he wanted to offer me a weekly internship on The Folk Show…so I headed over there this past Sunday night, and help out with setting up for a band that was performing live in the studio that night…I helped move CD’s in and out of players, and helped break down the band’s stuff when they were all done…it was really neat, and I am gonna keep doing that each Sunday…

This Sunday in particular, I’m doing my Gratz teaching lesson at Beth Sholom…I’m teaching a bunch of fourth-graders about Jews in Rock ‘n’ Roll…I realized that I really don’t want to ever be a teacher, and especially not one for fourth graders, so I hope to get this over with as soon as I can…

Before that, I get to dance the night away with DJ Robert Drake at the helm of a bitchin’ 80’s dance party…I got my threads all picked out, and I can’t wait to hear what Robert has in store…

I remember that I used to put a list of concerts that I am going to in the near future…Not including the ones that I might help out with at XPN (since I really don’t know about them now), here’s what I’ve got on my musical plate:

5/11: Paisley Haze @ World Café Live
5/12 They Might Be Giants @ TLA
6/1: Dick Dale @ Sellersville Theatre

That’s it, really, but I’m sure there’s more to come…
E.

Lyric of the Time:
They stole guitars or used guitars
So the tape would understand,
Without even the slightest hope of a 1000 sales
Just as if, as if there was, a Hitsville in U.K.,
I know the boy was all alone, ’til the Hitsville hit U.K.
