Outsider

Les Claypool thought that the whole story of the Fez was pretty funny, and he was glad to hear that it is on its way back to its rightful owner…

Friday, John Ondrasik (Five For Fighting) was a guest DJ on the Morning Show, so we got to meet him and have our picture taken with him…he was very nice, and was happy to talk with us and to take pictures…That day, Animal Liberation Orchestra did the Free At Noon concert…I must admit that am not a big fan of wat I have heard from their album, Fly Between Falls…it sort of is like Jack Johnson expanded into a whole band, and I’m not really a fan of Jack Johnson…that aside, they were really good in concert…I guess with some bands, performing live brings out a certain energy that cannot be captured in a studio recording…after the show, we hung out with the guys from the band for a good bit of the afternoon…we exchanged stories and anecdotes, and it was a really good time…maybe I’ll give Fly Between Falls a second chance…after all, it’s the least I can do after they were so very nice to us…

Yesterday at Zerns, Steve DiMeo and Matt Frederick (yes, the Matt Frederick, as in, the bass player from Napalm Sunday) came to the store…it was pretty neat, especially since, without any camp groups coming in that day, it made the day go by a bit faster…

Today was Visiting Day at Camp Ramah…I went with Caitlin’s parents, even though Caitlin is in Japan right now, and could not join us…because I was at Visitng Day last year, it was not very odd for me to be there visiting other people after so many years as a camper, so that was not the issue…Now, I am not the one to get too attached to things…I may have addressed that in a post about keeping in touch with my high school friends, but my philosophy is this: I don’t want to force contacts with people who I am not friends with just for the sake of keeping in contact with my whole class or edah (camp age group, for the uninformed)…people should not be treated like baseball cards; they should not be ‘collected’, and I don’t make myself feel bad if I lose contact with many people…I keep in touch with the people I like, and the people I like keep in touch with me, and I wouldn’t want it any differently…for that reason and others, I felt very out of place at Ramah today…sure, there were people there who were very happy to see me, and I won’t deny that there were many people whom I was happy to see as well…but the overall feeling of the camp that so many people latch onto was simply missing from my attitude as well as from the atmosphere of the camp itself…and this is not just because I have not been at camp for more than two years…the people in my edah have also skipped a year from being at camp, either opting to go on the six-week Israel Seminar program or, like me, not doing anything at all…so it’s not like everyone else had an advantage as far as being at camp goes…after going today, I can honestly and regretlessly say that I never need to set foot in that camp ever again…the only reason I would ever work there would be to do Radio, but Jonathan Magen (one of my oldest friends) has a monopoly on that, and won’t be giving that gig up for quite some time (in all fairness, he’s really done a lot to get the radio station upgrades, and he is really good at working the station, but I would only ever go back if I could get a crack at it)…just like I said in my post about my leaving USY, don’t let my little black raincloud rain on your parade…even if you agree with me, make your own damn decisions, already…

On the way home, I was the source of entertainment, with stories about Bats Day, and it made me even more excited for the end of August…

This Friday/Saturday/Sunday is XPN’s All About The Music Festival…come on out and enjoy three days of terrific music, and to see me and the Incredible Script-Formatting DACS-Sending RIAA Report-Avoiding World Café Programming Intern team…that was a mouthful…

Lyric of the Time:
I remember the year I went to camp
I heard about some lady named Selma and some blacks
Somebody put their fingers in the President’s ears
It wasn’t too much later they came out with Johnson’s wax
