So I figured I should tell you about what I’m feelin’ after my first few days here at exotic Temple Ambler…the whole thing is kind of odd; when I walk to one of my classes, it feels as though I’m walking to work, but I’m really walking to a class…it just doesn’t feel like it’s a school, more like a small town where everyone is there to learn…I always find establishments a little on the weird side…take resaurants, for example, here’s a place where you only go to eat, and they are there for no other purpose…everyone else is there for the exact same reason…this is contrary to things like baseball parks where, although everyone there is, in essence, there for the game, you can do other things like shop, eat, see attractions and such…college is kind of like that too…you, and everyone else here are here to learn…It makes more sense in places like State College, where everyone in the city is a part of the school…Temple Ambler is more like camp…everyone has somewhere to be at one point or another, and we’re all there fo basically the same reason…
With that in mind, I like it here because it doesn’t feel like an establishment…there’s something going on all the time, be it classes or a club fair or something else…there’s also (for me, at least), lots of time between classes for things like work, reading, hanging out, doing radio, and playing music really loud (which not only don’t other people mind, but I’ve gotten several compliments on my music from various people so far)…
They say that, in college, you do things you wouldn’t have done in High School…truth be told, many of the Welcome Week activities over the past few days might not have been of interest to me at any other time…but, with nothing to lose, I took part in them just for the experience (and with a little arm twisting from people I like)…
Monday night was game night turned drum circle, which was pretty fun, even without Pop-O-Matic Trouble…Tuesday night was a performance by hypnotist Joshua Seth…it started out with some easily-debunked “psychic” feats and card tricks…it then moved on to the main event: the hypnosis of several of my friends and fellow students…now, I’ve seen several magicians and slight-of-hand folks in my days, but never a hypnotist, so I was pretty impressed with this guy, even being he skeptic that I am…Last night was the Foam Dance Party, which is where an inflatable bounce-house-type structure is filled with foam (presumably made from lots of detergent and dish washing liquid), and people dance around in it…now, if you know me, you know that I hate being covered in things: mud, sand, water (though I still swim very rarely), and now you can add foam to the list…despite all that (and again, with a little arm-twisting from people I like), I got in, and it was very interesting…the foam gets everywhere, and on everyone, and makes everything and everyone really slick and slippery…yes, there were people dancing with each other in a way that reminded me of USY (which did make me a bit uncomfortable, but the people that I wanted to be with at the dance weren’t dancing that way)…in all, it was worth going to, if only to see people with foam-based mohawks…I dried my shirt and pants in the dryer, and got it all out of my hair and off my arms and legs, but my hair stills smells like it…the one benefit: because you go in with your clothes on, it’s like taking a shower and doing your laundry at the same time, which is definitely a time saver…
Tonight I think that there is a D(r)ive In Movie (ha! get it?) at the pool…not having a bathing suit, I won’t be swimming, but I’ll go check it out, anyway…
Tomorrow’s Free at Noon show is Boris Garcia, with Steve Ferraro on drums (Steve’s kids went to Ramah, and his son was in one of my radio classes)…should be a good way to kick off the ol’ Labor Daybor…
Bumped into
glitchphil today…I’ll have to hang out with him sometime soon, since, in my opinion, the Churro’d! bit is not enough, funny as it may be…

Lyric of the Time:
Modern love - walks beside me
Modern love - walks on by
Modern love - gets me to the church on time
Church on time - terrifies me
Church on time - makes me party
Church on time - puts my trust in god and man
God and man - no confessions
God and man - no religion
God and man - don’t believe in modern love
