Suddenly

I got to XPN today expecting a busy day, as usual…seems like there’s more work on Fridays than I remember there being when I was there everyday, but who can tell?…there are going to be a bunch of new interns coming soon, so I’m not concerned…

With chai in hand, I sat down at my desk, ready to Conversations From The World Cafe DACS it up, when Dan Reed (music director, for those of you playing along at home) comes over to me, and the following ensues:

DR: “Hey man, could you do me a favor?”
E.: “Sure, what’s up?”
DR: “Could you take KT Tunstall downstairs? Michaela [Majoun, host of the Morning Show and Women’s Music Hour] is expecting her.”

Normally, this wouldn’t faze me, since I’ve worked with plenty of artists, doing sillier things than showing them to the studio, but my not being there during the week has sort of put me out of the loop…I would have known earlier in the week that someone was coming besides the Free At Noon performers…So Dan walks me out to the lobby, and there’s KT Tunstall and two people from her label…I introduced myself and showed them downstairs to the studios, making witty little comments along the way…After they Michaela greeted them, she asked me if I would make a cup of tea for KT…this was, in my opinion, the most intense Artist Hospitality test of mettle: making tea for someone from Scotland…I made it the way she said she took it, and hoped for the best (come to think of it, she didn’t even tell me how it was, but she was really thankful nonetheless)…after Michaela talked with her
