Hand In Hand
November 21st 2006 by E..
I figure that I may as well drop the 80’s Party from my memory, since it really would not do anybody any good if I were to complain any more about it…that made sense, right?
Friday, after a rather uneventful day at XPN (I did see Phil Roy, though), Dad and I (along with Scott from Pep Boys and his girlfriend Jen) went to the TLA to see Reverend Horton Heat with Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers…of course, we got to South Street way early, and we had some time to kill after eating dinner at Copa…spotted DJ Robert Drake during his pre-Sex Dwarf scrambles (he wasn’t really scrambling, I just really like that word)…I told him that in two years, when I am 21 and he is definitely still doing Sex Dwarf, I’ll have to stop by…we went to Crash Bang Boom, the new home of Zipperhead, where I got 2 buttons: one of Adam and the Ants and one of Love And Rockets…across the street there was a curio shop that jen wanted to go into…so we went to take a look, and I was (naturally) looking through their shelf of CD’s when I came across a copy of Joe Meek and The Blue Men’s “I Hear A New World: An Outer Space Musical Fantasy”…without getting into too much detail, I’ll let you know that I have been looking for a copy of this CD for years…you can read about Joe Meek on the internet, and I highly recommend you do, since he was a brilliant producer and just a very creative guy…and after all that, how much was it?…why, $2.00, of course!…I love stores like that…maybe because they remind me of our store…nah…
The show was a lot of fun, and it really took a lot out of me, to tell you the truth…Th’ Shack Shakers’ lead singer is known for his onstage antics, and I could see why…I won’t get too specific, since there are a few things that he did that I would rather leave my memory, but that performance was the first time I had to keep the lead singer of a band I was seeing from hitting the floor after losing his footing and falling clear off the stage…during the break, the guy next to me introduced himself as Adam from Y-Rock on WXPN, to which I responded that he did look really familiar…Reverend Horton Heat came out and were less “theatrical” than the Shack Shakers, but no less entertaining…they did a few tricks with their instruments, but it was more silly than crazy (keep in mind that the guys in that band are a bit older than the guys in the Shack Shakers)…they took lots of requests, including one I shouted out, but there were lots of other people shouting the same thing, so I can’t really take credit for it (it was “Bad Reputation” from their first album, and no, not the Joan Jett song)…There were a few mosh pits that formed behind us, but they were shot down by security, bigger fans just wanting to see the show, or by the Reverend’s nasty look in their direction (or any combination of the three)…after the show, I went over to Jimbo, the bass player, and got him to sign my ticket stub…he is a very nice guy, and was talking with everyone after the show, thanking them for coming out…it made me happy that, after all of the musicians I have seen who come off as jerks, that there are still those who are really grateful to their fans…oh, Jimbo…
Saturday and Sunday I straightened up my room for the Thanksgiving-Eve Dessert Party (not that it is going to be in my room, but there will most likely be nosy relatives who just have to see where I sleep)…I brought “V For Vendetta” back here (to Ambler), though it may have to wait until after break (unless, of course, I bring it back home, in which case I hope it had a fun trip)…
Marc Broussard Free At Noon this Friday…hopefully Lynn will make the right choice and be there, dammit (DD wants to see you and I probably didn’t make that up)
Oh, and Kramer’s a racist?…giddy-up…
That’s about it…going home tomorrow after my show, and then it’s Tofurkey day and such!
