Brownie Points For Nietzsche

Man, it has been a while, but only because I’ve been doing so many things…as is often the case, this post will hardly do justice to my absence, but I’m sure you’ll get over that in enough time…

All the way back on last Friday, I was running XPN’s board for most of Illinois‘ Free At Noon Concert…they were not bad, though the lead singer sang and talked a lot through a microphone rigged through a telephone receiver…that may sound good on a few songs on a record, but live, it was a bit strange…

That night, Dad and I went to see Grindhouse…my best summation of it is that it was out of control…Yes, I had to leave the theater for a few minutes to regain myself from all the medical gore in Planet Terror, but I didn’t really miss much…I thought that the fake trailers were hysterical, and I’m glad that I got to see some of the actual B-movie trailers on Something Weird, otherwise I don’t think I would have appreciated the whole gist of the movies as much as I did…

Sunday, because it was so rainy, Erin and I went to Reading Terminal Market instead of the Art Museum…they’re pretty much the same thing anyway…We had crepes, and crepes are very good…very good indeed…

School is winding to an end for the year, though I guess that’s kind of redundant…after all, how often do things wind to a beginning?…anyway, I can’t wait for school to be done and for the summer to be, well, here!

This Friday, I was at the board once again, and I got a lot of new CD’s (I apparently missed a ‘David getting rid of stuff from his cubicle day’)…Y-Rock went pretty well, and next week I have the playback of the Tragically Hip’s Free At Noon, in case you don’t get a chance to hear it at noon, or if you just want to hear it again!…I recorded the better part of my shift, and I am going to edit it into an aircheck…Joey O., Y-Rock’s music director, said to me that I am going to be kept in my current time slot for some time, which is a good thing, especially since it works very well for me and for them (them being the people in charge of Y-Rock)…

Yesterday, Erin and I went to the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Book Festival, mainly to see a performance by Patti Smith…We also saw a group called Harry And The Potters, who apparently write songs from the point of views of the characters from the Harry Potter books…they seemed to be very popular, but having not read past the first book, their lyrics and references were largely lost on me…We also saw a performance by Kruno Spisic, making that three times this year that I have seen him live…

Patti Smith’s performance was really good…she performed with her son, Jackson, and did a few songs before inviting a musician who she had just met earlier that day: Jeffrey Gaines…they did a few covers from her new album, Twelve, including Neil Young’s “Helpless” and The Allman Brothers’ “Midnight Rider”…she also did “People Have The Power”, “My Blakean Year” and “Because The Night” as a semi-sing-along…the weather was delightful, and I don’t think that I could have had a better time…Erin and I took the train back to Rydal so that I could walk her home, which was an adventure unto itself…after taking her home, I decided to walk home rather than back to the train station (I realized about halfway to her house where I was, and how I could just as easily walk back home)…about an hour’s walk later I was home…it was neat, actually…I have gone through that area in a car so many times, but walking made it, again, like a kind of adventure…I had my phone playing tunes real loud from my coat pocket, which not only helped me pace myself, but try to figure out just how long I had been walking (no worries, that’s just the way I think)…

MySpace seems to think that my account has been phished, which, according to DJ Robert Drake, is not the case, but that it is merely a bug in their system to flag any account that sends bulletins with HTML hyperlinks (as I did on Friday for my Y-Rock alert)…my guess is that they are getting plenty of messages about the issue, and that they are going to implement some kind of confirmation thing for sending bulletins…in the meantime, I can apparently organize my pictures into album and arrange them however I want on the page…way to get your priorities in line, MySpace…

With that, I’m going to enjoy this beautiful day by staying inside and watching cartoons…Hey, I was outside all day!  That definitely fills my ‘Get Up Off Your Butt And Go Outside” quota at least until May!

Title of my next poem/song: “Glass-Bottomed Boat”…

Unfortunately, it’s run is technically over, but if you haven’t seen “Operation: Kitten Calendar” on Acceptable.TV, there is something seriously wrong with you…

Lyric of the Time:
So you want to be a rock & roll star
Well listen now to what I say
Get yourself an electric guitar
And take some time and learn how to play
And when hair’s combed right
And your pants are tight
It’s gonna be all right
