Archive for June 2007

Hey, it’s the Friday 5, and it makes me smile!

Totally still enthralled from The Polyphonic Spree earlier today, but here goes:

1. The Puppini Sisters – “Panic” from Betcha Bottom Dollar

Three Andrews Sisters sing-a-likes doing a Smiths song?…Please and thank you!

2. The Polyphonic Spree – “Section 27 (Mental Cabaret)” from The Fragile Army

Though the new album isn’t as unique as 2004’s Together We’re Heavy, this re-recorded cut from last year’s Wait EP is definitely the best track on the record…on top of that, Tim DeLaughter is the nicest guy ever…

3. Fujiya & Miyagi – “Collarbone” from Transparent Things

Few songs are as infectious as “Ankle Injuries”, but the second track keeps the Krautrock a-comin’…got to love the last few seconds of vocals-only scatting at the very end…

4. Wilco – “You Are My Face” from Sky Blue Sky

‘Catchy’ isn’t a word that properly describes Jeff Tweedy and company’s latest…nevertheless, this is one of a few songs that really stand out (and not just because it’s in a Volkswagen commercial)…

5. The Feelies – “Higher Ground” from Only Life

On the Internet Radio Day of Silence, I found musical sanctuary with the webstream of WFMU just in time for Three Chord Monte…they played a version of this song that Glenn Mercer did live in their studio and it made me remember not only how much I like The Feelies, but how much I love WFMU…thanks again, guys!
