Woodwork Squeaks
August 3rd 2007 by E..
As Internet woes continue to wreak havoc on this house, I will try to fill you in on what’s been going on otherwise…
In case you didn’t know, I’ve been unable to burn CD’s on my laptop for nigh on a month now…No problems reading discs, just writing…So I called up Gateway and spoke to my new best friend, Neal…he told me that CD burners actually have two different lasers: one to read, one to write…and just because one fizzles out doesn’t necessarily mean that the other will do the same…He was nice enough to send me a new drive that works wonderfully, and I’m back in the CD Mix business (or “bizness”, as I like to say)…
Mom, Dad, Erin and I went to see The Simpsons Movie the other night…on the whole, it was enjoyable but underwhelming…Don’t get me wrong, the individual jokes were high-larious, but the parts where it tried to be like a real movie (as opposed to an extended version of the show) fell flat to me…If they make a Futurama movie, I would be surprised…period.
Tomorrow’s Free At Noon concert is with Tegan & Sara, and I cannot wait…first of all, their new album, The Con, is delightful…I wrote a review of it for Y-Rock’s eNewsletter, and it will likely be archived on the website towards the beginning of nexy week…secondly, as Joey O. and I like to say, “there’s two of them”…the concert is, in fact, sold out, but you can still hear it on XPN (both radio and online stream) live at noon, or you an hear it during my Y-Rock show when I play it back at 4:00 pm (eastern, of course)…
Also, tomorrow night, my hero Stan Ridgway is performing downstairs at World Café Live…I’ve grown up to the music of Stan as well as Wall Of Voodoo, Drywall and various other projects of his…Stan and the band will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of Wall Of Voodoo’s Call Of The West, as well as his lenghty and awesome career…I will be sure to let you know all about the show, and maybe I’ll even get a picture with the man himself!
My birthday is quickly approaching, and that means that our trip to Disneyland is doing the same…there are a whole bunch of Disney-themed shows on TV (mostly about travel and making cakes in the shapes of things), and those only make me more excited…I just said to Dad the other day how I’m going to have vegetarian gumbo in a bread bowl, and that it’s going to be gooooooood….
So now that you know all that, why not go read something else now?
E.
Lyric of the Time:
Don’t let them tell you the future’s electric
‘Cause gasoline’s not measured in metric
30,000 wheels are spinnin’
And oil company faces are grinnin’
