The Forgotten Arm: Guadalcanal Diary

No, this isn’t going to be about the movie Guadalcanal Diary (though, now that I think about it, that’d be pretty neat).  Guadalcanal Diary (the band) formed outside of Atlanta, Georgia around 1981.  Though they were originally (and quite swiftly) lumped together with other local guitar-pop bands of the time, Guadalcanal Diary never got their chance to shine like R.E.M. or The Feelies did.  With their full length debut, Walking In The Shadow Of The Big Man, the band showed off their country and surf influences, and scored some minor hits along the way.  During their original eight-year run, Guadalcanal Diary released only four albums (three of them produced by Don Dixon of ‘almost-producing-Nevermind‘ fame).  When they got back together in 1997, Guadalcanal Diary toured for three years without setting foot into the studio.  The members have since played with other bands, including Dash Rip Rock, Southern Culture On The Skids and Man Or Astro-Man?.
